1. Are pets allowed?
Yes pets are allowed but not in every cottage. Below every cottage description it will state one of the following PETS: "Yes", "No" or "Maybe" We glady welcome and accept all breeds of dogs. We also welcome caged birds, caged hampsters/gerbils. For everyones comfort we do not allow any type of cat due to the dander and related allergies in so many people, but at this time we cannot accept cats due to some many allergies with cat dander.
There is a pet contract and a Pet Insurance Policy which is required before your pet may come.
2. In some descriptions it states "Pets: Maybe" please explain?
Maybe just means we need to call the owner and get their approval first before we can issue a contract. This doesn't necessarily mean your pet will be approved as the owner has the last say.
3. What if I have allergies to pets ?
Please tell us up front if you have allergies, we do not ask. It is your responsibilty to let us know BEFORE making your reservation if you are allergic to animals.
4. What type of pets are allowed in the cottages?
In the cottages that accept pets Dogs are the primary animal that is accepted. We have also accepted, birds (only birds that are restricted to cages), hampsters and gerbils. Cats are never allowed due to related allergies in so many people.
5. Are Cats allowed in the cottages?
NEVER. Cats are not allowed due to allergies in so many people.
6. Can I bring more than one dog?
Most cottages which allow dogs will accept one at a time. There are very few cottages that will allow multiple dogs but you can find our list under "Pets". If you have more than one dog, please call our office (207) 374-3500 and a trained rental agent will be able to assist you in finding a cottage that will fit your needs. You can also
E-mail Us
7. Is there a leash law in Maine?
Yes there is a leash law. Your dog must be on a leash at all times. Even when you are at the cottage your dog must be restrained. Please respect your neighbors by keeping your dog from wandering onto their property.
8. Can I leave my dog inside the cottage when I am gone?
It is best to take your dog with you when you can. Some dogs get anxious or nervous when left in an unfamiliar place and they end up doing damage to the cottage (if left for long periods of time.) (E.I wetting on the floor, chewing on furniture, scratching holes in screens etc...) If you know you are going to be gone all day long, it is better for your dog to be left behind at the cottage: opposed to sitting in a hot car all day (Which is considered animal abuse and you run the risk of having your dog taken from you) If you know your dog isn't a "barker" you can always leave him/her outside of the cottage tied to a tree where there is plenty of shade/water. Or if you have a crate you can leave your dog inside in a dog crate while you are out for the day. Please consider all other options before leaving your pet alone inside the cottage.
9. Are there any additional fees when bringing a pet?
Yes. All cottages that will accept a dogs/ requires the purchase of a $25.00 per Pet Damage Insurance. Each cottage is different and fees vary according to how many dogs you bring.
10. Do I need to clean up after my pet?
Yes. It is your responsibility to clean up after your pet. INSIDE and OUTSIDE You are expected to pick up all evidence left behind by your dog outside and you are also required to vaccum and clean up any dog hair inside the house. When you depart there should be no evidence a dog had stayed there
11. What If unexpected guests show up with a pet during my stay?
Unauthorized pets are cause for immediate eviction and forfeiture of all funds paid. It is your responsibilty to make sure that no pets get inside the cottage that you are renting.
12. When do I need to notify you if I am bringing a pet?
We need to be notified before your contract is written so that we can get the owners permission first.
13. Can my dog sleep on the sofa?
Pets are not allowed on the furniture, even with slip covers or blankets.
14. Are puppies allowed?
Due to normal "puppy" behaviors such as chewing etc.. Our owners do not allow dogs under 2 years old of age stay in any of the cottages.
