1. Are pets allowed?
Most of our cottages allow pets strictly on a case by case basis and some of our cottages do not allow pets at all. In the cottages that accept pet: Dogs, birds (only birds that are restricted to cages), hampsters and gerbils are what is allowed. Cats are never allowed due to related allergies in so many people.

If you want to bring a dog select your top 3 choices of cottages and we will review them with you.We need to know what breed of dog you have, their appoximate weight and wither or not you have a crate. If you want to bring a pet you must tell us BEFORE we start to discuss your cottage. If pets are not discussed we will not be able to accept your pet. There is a $200.00 per pet deposit and a pet lease that must be signed and returned in order for your pet to be allowed in a cottage. If the pet lease is not followed there is often an extra cleaning fee deducted from the pet security deposit in order for us to clean up after your pet. Any unauthorized pet(s) will be cause for immediate eviction with no monies returned.

2. Some descriptions say **NO PETS** and others do not mention pets at all. Does this mean that if the description doesn't mention pets that it is a pet friendly cottage?
We can only publish a list of "non-pet friendly" cottages online, (you will see in the cottage description, near the bottom: **NO PETS**.) If there is no mention of pets in the description, this doesn't mean its a pet friendly cottage. We can not post "Pet Friendly" cottages as the owners have the last say of wither or not they will accept. An owner may accept a small dog, but not a large dog or vice versa. Or the number of people that will be staying in the cottage may have an impact on the owners decision about pets. Never assume that you can bring your pet. Instead, please call or e-mail our office and ask a trained rental agent.

3. What if I have allergies to pets ?
Please tell us up front if you have allergies, we do not ask. It is your responsibilty to let us know BEFORE making your reservation if you are allergic to animals. Please DO NOT rely on the Cottage Description as to wither or not a pet has been in the cottage before. Just because the cottage description says **NO PETS** doesn't mean the owners haven't had their pets in that particular cottage. **No Pets** means that all tenants can not bring their pet(s) .

4. What type of pets are allowed in the cottages?
In the cottages that accept pets Dogs are the primary animal that is accepted. We have also accepted, birds (only birds that are restricted to cages), hampsters and gerbils. Cats are never allowed due to related allergies in so many people.

5. Are Cats allowed in the cottages?
NEVER. Cats are not allowed due to allergies in so many people.

6. Can I bring more than one dog?
Most cottages that do allow dogs only allow one dog at a time. There are a very few cottages that will allow multiple dogs. Never exceeding any more than two (2). If you have more than one dog, please call our office and a trained rental agent will be able to assist you in finding a cottage that will fit your needs.

7. Is there a leash law in Maine?
Yes there is a leash law. Your dog must be on a leash at all times. Even when you are at the cottage, your dog must be restrained for your protection and the protection of others. (This also includes all wild animals that may unexpecidly pay you a visit.) "Wandering dogs" are not tolerated in Maine. Please respect your neighbors by keeping your dog tied and off of their property. Also "Mainers" like their quietness. Please do not allow your dog to bark constantly. If you know that your dog barks please leave him/her inside the house when you are gone.

8. Can I leave my dog inside the cottage when I am gone?
It is best to take your dog with you when you can. Some dogs get anxious or nervous when left in an unfamiliar place and they end up doing damage to the cottage (if left for long periods of time.) (E.I wetting on the floor, chewing on furniture, scratching holes in screens etc...) If you know you are going to be gone all day long, it is better for your dog to be left behind at the cottage: opposed to sitting in a hot car all day (Which is considered animal abuse and you run the risk of having your dog taken from you) If you know your dog isn't a "barker" you can always leave him/her outside of the cottage tied to a tree where there is plenty of shade/water. Or if you have a crate you can leave your dog inside in a dog crate while you are out for the day. Please consider all other options before leaving your pet alone inside the cottage.

9. Are there any additional fees when bringing a pet?
Yes. All cottages that will accept a dogs/ requires the purchase of a Pet Damage Waiver. Each cottage is different and fees vary according to how many dogs you bring.

10. Do I need to clean up after my pet?
Yes. It is your responsibility to clean up after your pet. INSIDE and OUTSIDE You are expected to pooper-scoop all evidence left behind by your dog outside and you are also required to vaccum any dog hair inside the house.

11. What If unexpected guests show up with a pet during my stay?
Unauthorized pets are cause for immediate eviction and forfeiture of all funds paid. It is your responsibilty to make sure that no pets get inside the cottage that you are renting.

12. When do I need to notify you if I am bringing a pet?
We need to be notified BEFORE your contract is written. If you notify us later in the year that you have just inherited a dog, or that your friends that are coming with you have decided to bring their dog, or that your dog sitter has backed out on you... The answer will be "NO" If a pet isn't listed on your original contract then you will not be allowed to bring a pet.

13. Can my dog sleep on the sofa?
Pets are not allowed on the furniture, even with slip covers or blankets.

14. Are puppies allowed?
Due to normal "puppy" behaviors such as chewing and using the floor as a bathroom, no dogs under 2 years old are allowed in any of the cottages.
