Are pets allowed?
Most of our cottages allow pets strictly on a case-by-case basis and some of our cottages do not allow pets at all. We can only publish a list of "non-pet friendly" cottages online, (you will see in the cottage description, near the bottom: **NO PETS**.) If there is no mention of pets in the description, this doesn't mean its a pet friendly cottage. We cannot post "Pet Friendly" cottages as the owners have the last say of whether or not they will accept. An owner may accept a small dog, but not a large dog or vice versa. Or the number of people that will be staying in the cottage may have an impact on the owners decision about pets.
Never assume that you can bring your pet.
Instead, please call or e-mail our office and a trained rental agent will be able to confirm/not confirm your pet
In the cottages that accept pet:
Dogs, birds (only birds that are restricted to cages), hampsters and gerbils are what kind of pets are allowed. Cats are never allowed due to related allergies in so many people.
If you want to bring a dog select your top 3 choices of cottages and we will review them with you. If you want to bring a pet you
must tell us BEFORE
we start to discuss your cottage. If pets are not discussed we will not be able to accept your pet. There is a pet insurance policy that must be purchased if bringing a pet Any unauthorized pet(s) will be cause for immediate eviction with no monies returned.
2.
What if I have allergies to pets or cleaning supplies?
Please tell us up front if you have allergies, we do not ask. Our cleaners can use non-allergenic cleaning materials to clean before your arrival. As for pets, we can find a cottage that has never had pets in it before.
3.
Is smoking allowed?
No. All of our cottages are non-smoking. If you wish to smoke you can do so outside, but must pick up after yourself.
4.
Is there a place to rent Boats, Kayaks, Canoes, or Bikes?
Yes. The Activity Shop in Blue Hill will rent and deliver all items except motorboats. The phone number is (207) 374-3600.
For Motor Boats: 14’ McKeecraft with 25hp Johnson & Evinrude engines are $450 per week. A 17’ 115 hp are $525 per week. Call (207) 374-5670 and ask for Chris.
5.
Is there Internet access in the cottages?
Many cottages are trying to accommodate those who wish to be in touch with the world while on vacation. Call your access provider and obtain an 800 number, as there are long distance blocks on all the cottages telephones.
6.
What is the policy on weddings, parties, family gatherings etc.?
Large gatherings are not permitted in/on any property unless specified in the description.
7.
What is the policy on bringing guests?
Approved guests are fine. We do ask that no more than the stated number of max occupants be in the house at any given time, this is due to well and septic reasons. Many of our cottages are able to sleep more than what is stated, however, due to septic limitations, what is listed on each cottage's web page is deemed the limit.
8.
Why do some descriptions say that the cottage is not safe for children?
When writing every cottage's description we keep in mind the safety of children. Any cottage that states it is not safe for children is posted as such for a reason. Some cottages have very steep cliffs, large drop offs into the water, or open lofts or decks that have no railings over a steep drop off. We have flagged these cottages "Not safe for children" for your protection.
9.
Why do I have to bring my own drinking water to certain cottages?
We have flagged all the cottages that require you to bring your own drinking water. This is because the cottages that are near the lakes actually pull in water from the lake. The cottages that are near the ocean may have saline in the water. The water in these flagged cottages is fine to bath and to wash dishes in but we strongly suggest bringing bottled water for drinking and cooking.
10.
What are the High, Early, Low and Off Season Dates?
Early Season is the last two weeks of June & the first two weeks of July
High Season is the last two weeks of July & all of August through the first week in Sept.
Low Season is the second and third week In Sept
Off Season is anytime after the third week in Sept through the following mid June.
11.
When do the cottages open or close for the season?
Our cottages can open as early as mid May and close as late as mid Nov.
Some cottages are not "Winterized" which means there is no or very little heat. These cottages open no sooner than June 1 and close mid Sept.
Other Cottages that are winterized we use them for a "Winter Rental" A winter rental is a rental that consists of signing a contract for several months: from Sept/Oct 1 through May/June 1st.
(and not all winterized cottages that we have are on our winter rental list. It’s only those owners who choose to rent their homes through the winter months)
